Amman — The University of Jordan (UJ) launched its AI Week on Sunday, organized by the IEEE CIS Student Branch at UJ in collaboration with the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center.
With more than 450 students, academics, and professionals from across Jordan participating, the event is the largest of its kind in the country. Its mission: to empower youth, bridge the gap between academia and industry, and showcase the real-world applications of artificial intelligence.
Inspiring Jordan’s Youth in AI
AI Week is dedicated to transforming theory into practice, encouraging students and professionals to explore innovative solutions powered by AI. The event emphasizes hands-on learning, industry collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across universities, tech companies, and government sectors.
The first day featured a dynamic series of specialized training workshops, including:
- Hackathon Project Building – led by UJ’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, equipping participants with rapid prototyping and creative collaboration techniques.
- Computer Vision Workshop – hosted by Qafza Technology Company, introducing image processing, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and real-world automation use cases.
- Voice Agents Workshop – presented by Labiba AI, focusing on pre-trained models, conversation design, and integration into business workflows.
- AI Prompt Engineering – presented by Shai AI, demonstrating advanced strategies to optimize AI-generated outputs.
From Hackathons to Conferences
The second and third days will spotlight a Hackathon on digital security powered by AI, encouraging participants to innovate in cybersecurity solutions.
On the fourth day, a high-level AI conference will take place under the patronage of UJ President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, bringing together experts, academics, and industry leaders. Key topics include:
- AI’s role in entrepreneurship and competitiveness.
- Integration of AI with data and the Internet of Things.
- Human–AI collaboration and ethical considerations.
- Future visions for responsible use of AI technologies.
Bridging Academia and Industry
The fifth and final day will feature field visits to leading companies and AI centers in Jordan. This step symbolizes the transition of AI from academic discussion to real-world application, a crucial move in aligning education with market demands.
This direction also aligns with Jordan’s wider shift toward digital education, particularly in higher education institutions. As highlighted in Ostathi’s feature on
E-learning in Jordanian Universities, the integration of technology into teaching and learning is no longer optional, it is essential for preparing students to thrive in a rapidly changing knowledge economy.
By linking students with industry leaders, AI Week reflects Jordan’s commitment to preparing a future-ready workforce equipped with cutting-edge skills in artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
